Type of sample/quantity required: it is advisable to prepare multiple slides from a single sampling of the bone marrow, to increase the number of particles to be analysed. A tube of peripheral blood in K3 EDTA and a peripheral smear taken on the same day as the marrow sampling (or a blood count performed on the same day as the marrow sampling) must also be sent;

Storage/shipping method: Slides must be completely dry and sent in suitable containers to avoid dust collecting on the smear; K3 EDTA test tubes must be shipped at refrigeration temperature, avoiding direct contact with the freezer pack.
IMPORTANT: any contact with formalin or its vapours must be strictly avoided (NEVER PLACE CYTOLOGICAL SAMPLES IN THE SAME BOX AS HISTOLOGICAL SPECIMENS FIXED IN FORMALIN)
