New Complete Blood Count (CBC) Report from MyLav: Usage Instructions
The MyLav CBC report is now presented in a new format. This decision stems from the need to adopt state-of-the-art technologies and meet the requirements of clinicians by simplifying the information contained in the CBC and making it more accessible.
Below are the specific changes:
The core technology transitions from the older ADVIA-Siemens model to the newer Sysmex technology, which combines impedance and laser technology.
Most of the standard data obtained in the hemogram will remain unchanged, while certain updates will be introduced in the report, described below according to the cell typology..

Erythrocytes
The combination of impedance measurements and optical readings retains all previously available information, though some labels in the report have changed:
Erythrocyte count (RBC), hematocrit (HCT), total hemoglobin concentration (HGB), and red cell distribution width (RDW) remain unchanged.
Cellular HGB( (formerly cellular HGB) is now referred to as HGB-O in the new system.
Classical erythrocyte indices remain consistent: Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), Mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC).
The average hemoglobin content from intracellular HGB (previously labeled CH) is now marked as RBC-He. The average hemoglobin concentration derived from intracellular HGB (formerly MCHC) is now called MCHC-O.
The Sysmex system accurately quantifies nucleated red blood cells (nRBC), reporting the number of nRBCs per 100 leukocytes (nRBC/100 WBC) and the absolute value of nRBCs (nRBC x 10³/µL).
Reticulocytes
The reticulocyte profile has been simplified to present only the most clinically relevant parameters, previously available in the report:
Reticulocyte percentage and absolute count (RET).
Reticulocyte percentages based on fluorescence: Low (L-RET), medium (M-RET), and high fluorescence (H-RET) corresponding to nearly mature, moderately immature, and highly immature reticulocytes.
The latter two categories are combined into the total immature reticulocyte fraction (IRF), as in previous reports.
Hemoglobin content in reticulocytes, previously labeled CHr, is now expressed as Ret-He.
The corrected reticulocyte percentage (based on hematocrit) and the reticulocyte production index (RPI) remain unchanged.
Leukocytes
Leukogram data remains unchanged from previous reports, including:
Total leukocyte count (WBC) and the count/percentage of leukocyte subpopulations (neutrophils, including band forms if present, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes).
It is essential to note that the total leukocyte count corresponds to the previously labeled WBC corr. In the past, the leukocyte count was adjusted to account for nucleated erythrocytes (nRBC) identified microscopically. Now, nRBCs are separately quantified by the Sysmex system as noted above.
Platelets
The platelet assessment includes only the most clinically significant data previously available in the CBC, such as:
Platelet count (PLT), mean platelet volume (MPV), and the proportion of large platelets (P-LCR).
For thrombocytopenic animals, the immature platelet fraction (IPF) has been added. This metric increases in thrombocytopenias caused by loss/peripheral destruction but not in bone marrow disorders that reduce platelet production.
Morphological Anomalies
All significant morphological anomalies in blood cell populations, verified microscopically by experts, remain included in the report. Other pathological findings observed during blood smear examinations, such as disease agents, are also reported.
